There are a lot of vibes going on in the season four Westworld trailer. Dystopic music! Flies crawling into eyes and ears! Characters questioning the nature of reality and whether they are sentient robots or sentient meat sacks like us!
Where the season’s first trailer (set to Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”) emphasized that things are far from perfect in Westworld land, this trailer has its characters either questioning the nature of reality and/or trying to create new realities of their own. Take Maeve (Thandiwe Newton), for example, who looks like she’s creating her own state of the world that’s set in the 1920s.

Tessa Thompson also appears to be creating her own version of things, specifically the Man in Black (Ed Harris), who at one point seems to be back in the first fake reality of the show—the robot-inhabited theme park, Westworld. We also see poor Caleb (Aaron Paul) looking equal parts confused and horrified in this trailer—the former when he’s in what looks like “the real world” and the crowd around him freezes á la robot-style, the latter when flies swarm over his face and into his earholes. Good times!
In addition to Newton, Thompson, Harris, and Paul, the eight-episode fourth season will star Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Hemsworth, Angela Sarafyan, and will also see the return of James Marsden. Additional cast members include West Side Story alum Ariana DeBose, Aurora Perrineau, and Daniel Wu.
The fourth season of Westworld starts streaming on HBO Max on June 26, 2022
